The Senate Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation has officially summoned the management of the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) over allegations of corruption and the illegal auctioning of government property.
In a letter dated May 26, 2026, Committee Clerk Ememike Nwofor Leonard ordered the CBDA Managing Director to appear at the National Assembly Complex today, June 3, 2026, with full documentation of the ongoing asset sales.
Key Allegations
The summons follows serious red flags raised by whistleblowers within the agency, including:
Illegal Asset Expansion: An auction meant for "unserviceable" items was allegedly expanded to sell off highly valuable, functioning equipment and vehicles purchased between 2020 and 2023.
Revenue Diversion: The leadership is accused of pocketing Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from equipment hiring services.
Zero Transparency: The Senate noted that strategic public infrastructure was being sold without its knowledge, bypassing required approvals from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
Invoking its constitutional oversight powers under Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution, the Senate has demanded the CBDA present full asset registers, valuation reports, and bidding documents
