Police Launch Operation “Kosaye” in Ogun, Arrest 88 Suspects, Rescue 5 Kidnapped Victims

Operatives from the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands have recorded a major success in a sweeping anti-crime operation codenamed “Kosaye” (meaning “no chance” for criminals), arresting 88 suspects, rescuing five kidnapped victims, and neutralizing four kidnappers.

The joint bush-combing exercise, which spanned Ogun, Lagos, and parts of the Oyo State boundary, targeted criminal hideouts, shanties, and thick forests where bandits and kidnappers were suspected to be operating.

Of the 88 suspects arrested, 84 were picked up during the broader sweeps (75 males and 9 females), while four additional kidnappers were detained during the specific rescue mission.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, who addressed journalists on Saturday at the Ogun Police Training College in Iperu, described the operation as an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, with full support from the governors of Lagos and Ogun States.

“Operation ‘Kosaye’ means there is no space for criminality and criminals,” Ojajuni stated. He emphasized that the exercise aims to wipe out banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal elements while clearing bushes and potential hideouts across the two states.

During the operation, police responded to a security breach along the J3-J4 corridor on the Benin-Sagamu Expressway, where five victims kidnapped along the Ore–Ogbere road on Thursday were successfully rescued.

Four kidnappers were killed in the confrontation, and four others arrested.Items recovered from the suspects include various firearms (AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, English and locally-made pistols), ammunition, battle axes, cutlasses, and mobile phones.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, reassured residents that the bushes and corridors had been thoroughly combed, dismissing rumors of bandit infiltration into Lagos.

He noted that the exercise is ongoing and will continue as long as necessary to ensure public safety.

Both commissioners urged citizens to remain calm, report any suspicious activities or persons with gunshot wounds to the police immediately, and cooperate with security agencies.

The operation has been hailed as a proactive step to restore confidence and rid the Southwest corridor of criminal elements.
