Activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has criticized the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over the process that led to the selection of its candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial ticket.
Speaking during an interaction with party officials, Yesufu expressed frustration at what she described as a lack of fairness and transparency.
She questioned the reasons given for her exclusion, noting that party leaders had previously promised consultations and stakeholder engagement.
Yesufu revealed that she was told her late entry into the party affected her chances, a claim she dismissed as unfair. “I was told recently that I came in late to this party. Who does that? I have endured a lot in the last few days. My name has been dragged all over,” she said.
The activist stressed that she was not seeking special treatment but wanted a credible process. “I am not even asking for a level playing ground, I am asking for a ground,” she declared.
She added that she would have accepted defeat if the primary had been conducted fairly: “I am ready to accept that I lost. If I lost fairly, I am ready to accept that I lost.”
Yesufu explained that she had refrained from publicly reacting to criticisms because she remained focused on broader political goals.
