NDC Aspirant Sent Me Receipt – Kenneth Okonkwo Alleges Obi’s Involvement in Bribes

Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has made explosive allegations against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing him and South-East party leaders of involvement in bribery during the party’s recent primaries.

Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the claims during an interview on Channels Television.

He said an NDC House of Representatives aspirant from Anambra State, identified as Obunike Ohaegbu (contesting for Nnewi North/Nnewi South Federal Constituency), sent him an “SOS message” along with a receipt as proof of the alleged scam.

According to Okonkwo, aspirants were initially told by party officials, including Dickson, that payment for the expression of interest form was sufficient, with nomination fees to be paid only after winning the ticket.

He alleged that after aspirants paid, Obi and South-East NDC caucus leaders demanded additional bribes, ₦10 million for House of Representatives aspirants and ₦20 million for Senate aspirants.

“They paid thinking they were now the chosen candidates. Later, they were told to go for primaries. While the aspirants were in the field, Peter Obi was at the John Wood Hotel writing the list of candidates,” Okonkwo claimed.

He further alleged that Kwankwaso ensured his people produced single candidates per constituency to avoid being scammed, but Obi encouraged all aspirants to participate, leading to the alleged extortion.

Okonkwo described the NDC under Obi as involved in “criminality” and warned that voting for the party and its candidate in 2027 would amount to supporting such practices.

Okonkwo, who identified himself as a former leader in the South-East, named several caucus leaders from the zone and insisted the claims were backed by multiple complaints, including from an Enugu politician.

He said the aspirant expressed disappointment not in losing the ticket, but in investing time and resources in what he called an opaque and undemocratic process.

These allegations come amid ongoing tensions and realignments in the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, following Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s move to the NDC.

No independent verification of the claims or receipt has been presented publicly, and the NDC is yet to issue an official response to Okonkwo’s specific accusations.
