2027: What ex-SGF Babachir Lawal Forgot to Tell Nigerians – Atiku

Former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has hit back at ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, accusing him of levelling serious allegations without providing any evidence.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described Lawal’s recent television interview as “an unfortunate cocktail of bitterness, conjecture, and political revisionism masquerading as public interest.”

Atiku’s camp noted that despite spending nearly an hour on air making grave accusations about the conduct of the ADC presidential primary, Lawal failed to produce any verifiable evidence no documents, petitions, result sheets, witness statements, or recordings.

The statement highlighted what it called a major contradiction in Lawal’s claims: portraying Atiku as both politically inactive and unpopular, while simultaneously accusing him of orchestrating a massive nationwide conspiracy to rig the primary across 8,809 wards.

“Atiku was inactive, unpopular, and absent from the field. Yet Nigerians are expected to believe that this same supposedly dormant politician somehow orchestrated a nationwide conspiracy,” the statement read.

Atiku’s team also drew attention to Lawal’s admission during the interview that he could call President Bola Tinubu for money and receive it before getting home, saying Nigerians could draw their own conclusions from that revelation.

The former Vice President’s camp further criticised Lawal for resorting to personal insults and ethnic undertones instead of facts, describing his approach as “the language of grievance” rather than reason. They defended Atiku’s long record in public service, economic reforms, and national development, rejecting claims that he has “absolutely nothing.”

The statement concluded that Lawal’s intervention lacked credibility and was driven by bitterness after his preferred candidate did not emerge victorious in the ADC primary. Lawal recently dumped the ADC, citing alleged massive rigging in favour of Atiku.
