Veteran Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has ridiculed reports that Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is demanding N5 billion in damages for alleged defamatory remarks.
In a statement shared on X, Okonkwo dismissed the legal move as unnecessary, joking that Obi should simply request campaign funds directly instead of what he described as “extortion.”
“If Peter Obi is looking for money to campaign, he should privately ask me for assistance, not come from extortion, and I will help him,” Okonkwo said, adding that he once covered his own travel and accommodation expenses while serving as Obi’s spokesperson.
Okonkwo further warned that pursuing the case could force him to reveal confidential details from his time working with Obi.
While he admitted he had not yet read the demand letter, he insisted he was prepared to respond formally once he reviewed it.
The actor-turned-politician challenged Obi’s legal team to proceed, stressing that he would not hesitate to defend himself in court.
