The Kwara State Government has boosted its emergency healthcare capacity with the deployment of five newly refurbished and fully equipped ambulances across the state.
According to a statement by the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), the ambulances were refurbished under the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity Project (HOPE) and handed over to the State Hospital Management Board in Ilorin.
Prof. Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of KWSPHCDA, said the initiative reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to building a resilient healthcare system capable of delivering timely emergency services.
Emergency response: The ambulances are equipped with oxygen delivery systems, emergency drugs, life-saving equipment, and medical consumables to provide pre-hospital care.
Healthcare investment: Elelu noted that the project demonstrates the administration’s people-centred approach and prioritisation of strategic healthcare investments.
Proper utilisation: She urged the Hospital Management Board to use the vehicles strictly for emergencies and patient referrals, stressing the importance of maintenance and responsible use.
Receiving the ambulances, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Board, thanked the governor and pledged that the vehicles would be deployed strictly for emergency services.
The government added that the initiative will improve patient transportation, enhance emergency response, and expand access to quality healthcare across Kwara.
In a related development, Commissioner for Health Dr. Amina El-Imam reaffirmed the state’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage and maternal health, highlighting ongoing efforts to scale up Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.
Stakeholders, including Vitamin Angels, commended Kwara for supporting evidence-based interventions aimed at improving maternal nutrition and pregnancy outcomes.
