Former presidential aide and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Babafemi Ojudu, has sharply criticised the emergence of Kingsley Chinda as the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, describing it as a sign that the state is effectively becoming “Wike’s state.”
Ojudu’s remarks followed the announcement of Chinda’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Chinda, the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, had already secured the APC governorship ticket despite defecting only after the primary election.
Reacting on his Facebook page, Ojudu expressed dismay at the development, questioning how a former Minority Leader of one party could obtain the governorship ticket of the ruling party before formally joining it. He wrote: “Welcome to Rivers State, a soon to be renamed Wike State.”
Ojudu emphasised traditional party principles, stating that political parties should be built on loyalty, shared values, ideological commitment, and long-term participation.
He asked what becomes of loyal members who have invested years in building the party when tickets are awarded to new entrants.
Chinda is reportedly a member of the “Rainbow Coalition,” a group of politicians from various parties supporting President Bola Tinubu.
