Joe Igbokwe Expresses Shame Over Backlash on Remi Tinubu’s Viral Advice

Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said he feels ashamed following the heavy criticism directed at First Lady Oluremi Tinubu over her recent advice to Nigerian youths.

A viral video had shown the First Lady encouraging young Nigerians to embrace small and medium-scale businesses, noting that petty trade such as frying akara for commercial purposes is not difficult.

Her comments, however, sparked outrage online, with many accusing her of trivializing the struggles of unemployed youths and failing to address the government’s responsibility to create jobs.

Reacting on his Facebook page, Igbokwe condemned the backlash, describing it as unfair. He argued that the First Lady’s words were meant as honest guidance, not an insult.

“This generation frightens me to the marrows. An honest advice HE Oluremi Tinubu gave to young Nigerians on how to help themselves has become a tool to abuse and pour invectives. Social media has become a tool to unleash scurrilous drivels even when the truth is spoken… Shame has enveloped me,” he wrote.

Igbokwe further criticized what he called “headless mobs” on social media, insisting that the First Lady’s message was rooted in encouragement rather than neglect.
