Nollywood actor and politician, Emeka Ike, has initiated legal proceedings against Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, following the exposure of his personal data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ike, who is contesting for a House of Representatives seat under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), described the leak as an abuse of power and said it left him feeling deeply insecure.
Speaking on News Central Television, he recounted:“I felt insecure. For the first time, I’m feeling like, ‘Is anybody saving this country anymore?’ It was shocking. It was so disturbing that I felt unsafe. Like that kind of feeling, that’s what it was like to me, like it’s an abuse of power.”
He condemned the incident as “political radicalism,” insisting that it sends a dangerous message to Nigerians.Ike confirmed that his lawyer has already written to Olayinka, INEC, his party, the DSS, and the police to formally document the breach.
“Obviously, I will go to court, and my lawyer has already written to Lere and INEC. He has also written my party, the DSS and the police so that it can be on record that stuff like this has happened in Nigeria,” he added.
The case has sparked wider debate about data protection and political accountability, with Ike stressing that such violations must not go unchecked.
