President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that the newly established Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Zonal Office in Ekiti State will significantly strengthen the fight against economic and financial crimes across Nigeria.
The President made the remark during the official commissioning of the ultra-modern EFCC zonal office in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
He described the facility as a critical addition to the nation’s anti-corruption infrastructure, particularly in the South-West region.
“Today, we are not just opening a building; we are reinforcing our collective resolve to build a Nigeria where integrity, transparency and accountability define our public and private conduct,” President Tinubu said.
“This zonal office will help us eradicate economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.”He emphasised that the new office would bring the EFCC closer to the people, improve response time to petitions, and serve as a strong deterrent to corrupt practices in Ekiti and neighbouring states.
The commissioning forms part of the federal government’s efforts to decentralise anti-graft operations and enhance the EFCC’s operational reach.
The facility is equipped with modern forensic laboratories, operational vehicles, and staff quarters to support effective investigation and prosecution of financial crimes.
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, who was present at the event, assured the President of the commission’s commitment to using the new office to target internet fraud, money laundering, and other economic crimes prevalent in the region.
The establishment of the Ekiti zonal office brings the number of EFCC operational zones to 18 across the country.
