DSS Intercepts Arms Shipment Bound for Bandit Kingpin

Operatives of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected arms courier in Kano State, foiling an attempt to deliver weapons to a notorious bandit leader operating in Zamfara State.

The suspect was apprehended on Friday in Gezawa Local Government Area based on credible intelligence, according to an operational report released by the DSS and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

The courier was intercepted while transporting a cache of arms and ammunition from Maigatari Local Government Area in Jigawa State, heading to Funtua in Katsina State for onward delivery to criminal elements.

Items recovered from the suspect include three AK-47 rifles, four rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) tubes and warheads, and two empty magazines.

Preliminary investigations have linked the consignment to a suspected bandit kingpin active in parts of Zamfara State. The suspect reportedly confessed that he was contracted to move the weapons from Maigatari to Funtua and was promised ₦450,000 upon successful delivery.

The DSS described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in efforts to disrupt the supply of arms and ammunition to criminal groups behind violent attacks, kidnappings, and other security threats in the North-West region. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full network behind the arms movement and identify other collaborators.

The suspect remains in DSS custody and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. Security agencies have intensified intelligence-driven operations to dismantle logistics networks sustaining banditry, terrorism, and organised crime across the country.
