The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has stated that amid Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, only God can ultimately bring insecurity to an end.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Matawalle acknowledged the resurgence of insecurity across the country, including recent attacks on schools in Oyo and Borno States that led to the abduction of students and teachers.
He described insecurity as a national challenge that requires collective efforts from security agencies and citizens alike. The minister urged Nigerians to support the government and security forces while intensifying prayers for peace.
Matawalle warned politicians against exploiting the security situation for political gains, stressing that such actions only cause further hardship to ordinary Nigerians. He noted that insecurity does not discriminate based on political affiliation or religion and can affect anyone.
“It is only God that can bring an end to this insecurity, alongside our collective prayers and efforts. It should not be used as a tool to condemn others or score political points,” the minister emphasised.
He criticised some opposition members for allegedly circulating old and misleading videos on social media to portray the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a failure. Matawalle maintained that security operatives are working round the clock to combat terrorists and other criminal elements.
The minister called on all Nigerians to rise above partisan interests and work together with security agencies to address the security challenges facing the country.
