Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala has challenged Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni to leave his media role and openly join Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential campaign, accusing the journalist of acting as an unofficial spokesman for the NDC candidate.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Bwala claimed that Oseni’s recent tough questioning of Obi on policy issues especially electricity generation was a ploy to mask his strong support for the former Anambra governor.
The exchange stems from Obi’s pledge, made after he emerged as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate at the party’s national convention in Abuja, to ramp up Nigeria’s electricity generation and distribution to at least 10,000 megawatts (MW) within four years if elected in 2027.
Bwala urged Oseni to demonstrate genuine courage by taking a leave of absence or sabbatical from Arise TV to actively campaign for Obi and “test his capacity” directly, rather than allegedly backing him from the studio.
“That anchor thinks he is deceiving us by saying he challenges @PeterObi on his plans to generate power as if he is not the unofficial spokesman of Peter Obi,” Bwala wrote. “Be courageous and bold and be a man by taking a leave of absence and or sabbatical from Arise News and join Peter Obi’s campaign and test his capacity.”
The remarks reflect ongoing tensions in Nigeria’s political discourse as the 2027 election cycle heats up, with accusations of media bias frequently traded between supporters of major political figures.
