The Presidency says keeping rescue plans for abducted Oyo pupils and teachers off social media is to protect lives, not hide information.
Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, made the case Monday on X amid public criticism over limited updates on the Oriire LGA abductions.
“The kidnappers are on social media with us and follow trends for updates,” Olusegun said. “You cannot expect government to post rescue plans online if you truly have the kids’ interest at heart. Concerned, we must. Reckless, we mustn’t.”
He stressed that the priority is securing the victims alive and that security forces need space to operate without public disclosure of tactics. On calls for sanctions against fake security reports, he said his job is to debunk misinformation while law enforcement handles arrests.
The defence comes as President Tinubu approved recruitment of 1,000 forest guards for Oyo State.
NSA Nuhu Ribadu said recruitment starts July 2026, with locals deployed to strengthen surveillance in forest corridors used by armed groups.
