Bala Mohammed Denies Reports of Defecting to Become Jonathan’s Running Mate

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to leave the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to become the running mate to former President Goodluck Jonathan in a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

The denial follows Jonathan’s emergence as the presidential candidate of the PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki. Jonathan was ratified at a special national convention held at the faction’s office in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, on Saturday.

Reacting to claims made on X by Nuhu Sada, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Governor Mohammed clarified that he remains committed to contesting the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat on the APM platform in 2027.

In a post on X on Sunday, the governor stated: “Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate.”

Mohammed recently resigned from the PDP and joined the APM amid the ongoing crisis in the main opposition party.

The development comes as political realignments and permutations continue to shape the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
