Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have successfully thwarted multiple kidnapping attempts, including an abduction bid on a pastor and his wife, while rescuing a total of 10 victims in coordinated operations across Plateau and Kaduna states.
Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Spokesman for the Joint Military Task Force, disclosed this in a statement released in Jos on Sunday. The operations, carried out within the last 48 hours, involved aggressive manhunts for fleeing suspects and underscored the military’s commitment to securing highways and communities in the Joint Operations Area.
In Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, troops from Sector 6 responded to a highway blockade by suspected kidnappers along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sayin axis around 12:30 a.m. on June 5, 2026. They discovered an abandoned ash-coloured Honda vehicle (registration APP-93CF) and launched a search in the surrounding bushes, successfully rescuing six kidnapped passengers. The victims had boarded a commercial vehicle from Lafia, Nasarawa State, en route to Jos.
The driver remains missing, and troops continue the search for him.In a separate incident in Bokkos Local Government Area, troops from Sector 5 responded to a distress call from Faggem Village on June 5 and foiled an ongoing abduction attempt.
The criminals fled into the forest under pressure, allowing troops to rescue a pastor, Pastor Ayuba Bitrus, and his wife, Mrs. Nanman Bitrus. The couple sustained injuries during the attack and were promptly evacuated to Bokkos Medical Clinic for treatment. A manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
In Kaduna State, troops from Sector 7 operating in Ungwan Gora, Sanga Local Government Area, responded to reports of terrorists blocking the highway between Rafi Tagwai and Angwan Dariya in the early hours of June 6, 2026.
They rescued two injured passengers from a commercial vehicle and recovered eight empty cases of 7.62mm special ammunition at the scene. Efforts are continuing to locate and rescue the remaining kidnapped occupants. The rescued victims were taken to a hospital in Fadan Karshi District for medical care.
The military has reaffirmed that Operation Enduring Peace will sustain its efforts to rid highways and communities of criminal elements.
