Army Arrests Dismissed Police Inspector Over Alleged Arms Supply to Bandits

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have arrested a dismissed police inspector accused of involvement in an interstate arms trafficking network supplying weapons to bandits and other criminal elements.

The Nigerian Army disclosed the arrest in a statement released on Sunday, June 15, 2026. According to the statement, troops from Sector 6, in collaboration with Headquarters Operation ENDURING PEACE, intercepted the suspect during an intelligence-led operation.

The suspect, identified as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, was apprehended on June 14 while travelling in a white Peugeot vehicle from Jos South towards the Makera axis in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray, a jack knife, two cutlasses, two mobile phones, two ATM cards, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, and N73,300 in cash.

Items also recovered included a police staff tag and photographs showing him in police uniform.

Preliminary investigations confirmed that Yusuf, formerly attached to Nigeria Police Force Base 7 in Abuja, had been dismissed from the force.

Intelligence reports allegedly link him to a syndicate supplying arms to criminal groups involved in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

The Army said the suspect is currently in military custody undergoing further interrogation to uncover other members of the network, including financiers and supply routes.

The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to disrupt illegal arms trafficking and recover illicit weapons in the region.

The military urged the public to continue providing credible intelligence to support security operations.
