The Allied People’s Movement (APM), Lagos State Chapter, has voiced serious concern over the escalating security challenges in Nigeria’s commercial capital, citing a surge in kidnappings, armed robberies, cult-related violence, and other criminal activities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ayodele Kazeem, warned that the growing incidents have heightened fears among residents and raised questions about the effectiveness of current security measures.
Kazeem described Lagos as Nigeria’s economic nerve centre and a major destination for millions seeking better opportunities, stressing that the state cannot afford to treat security issues lightly.
“Recent reports and videos circulating on social media have further amplified public concerns about the possibility of criminal elements infiltrating communities across the state,” he said.
While acknowledging the need for security agencies to investigate and verify such reports, Kazeem emphasised that “no responsible society can afford to treat security matters with indifference,” adding that the protection of lives and property must remain a top priority.
He urged Lagosians to remain vigilant and security-conscious at all times, promptly reporting any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the appropriate security agencies.
“Many criminal activities thrive because suspicious movements, behaviours and activities often go unreported until it is too late,” Kazeem noted.
The APM chieftain called for stronger collaboration between residents and law enforcement, describing security as a collective responsibility.
“Community members must also collaborate closely with law enforcement authorities by providing timely and useful information that can help prevent crime and safeguard lives and property,” he said.
Kazeem advised residents to support legitimate security efforts while avoiding the spread of unverified information that could cause panic. He reaffirmed APM’s commitment to policies and programmes that guarantee the safety, prosperity, and well-being of all Lagos residents.
