The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared Senator Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Samuel Ortom, former Governor of Benue State and Chairman of the faction’s presidential primary collation committee, announced Onor as the flagbearer on Tuesday while presenting the results of the primary in Abuja.
Ortom said Onor emerged after extensive consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across the country.
He noted that the committee reached out to PDP members in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary of the PDP faction, presented a certificate of return and the party’s flag to Onor during the ceremony.
The exercise was reportedly monitored by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) national commissioners, Abdullahi Zuru and Rhoda Gumus, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
On May 15, the faction had screened Onor as its sole presidential aspirant alongside 25 governorship aspirants from 17 states at the PDP Legacy House in Abuja.
This development further deepens the ongoing division within the main opposition PDP ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
