One of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants in Gombe State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Hamma Saleh, has rejected the emergence of Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.
Saleh described Pantami’s emergence through a voice affirmation during the PDP primary held on Tuesday as unfair and unacceptable to other aspirants who purchased nomination forms and actively participated in the party’s processes.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Gombe on Tuesday, Saleh expressed surprise at the turn of events. He noted that the primary, originally scheduled for Sunday, was abruptly postponed to Tuesday without clear explanation from the party leadership.
“While we were waiting for the primary election to be conducted last Sunday, it was suddenly announced that it was moved to Tuesday. Without any explanation from the party leadership, we woke up this morning to the news that Isa Pantami had emerged as the PDP governorship candidate,” he said.
The aggrieved aspirant also questioned the validity of Pantami’s participation in the PDP primary.
He alleged that Pantami had earlier contested the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary held on May 21, 2026, before defecting from the party.
Saleh condemned what he termed an “injustice” against himself and other aspirants. He announced that his legal team is preparing to challenge the outcome of the primary in court and urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding.
“I condemn in the strongest terms what I consider an injustice against me and other aspirants. My legal team is already working on the matter, and we will seek redress through the appropriate legal channels,” he stated.
Pantami recently dumped the APC after Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna emerged as the party’s consensus governorship candidate in Gombe State.
He cited dissatisfaction with the process that produced the APC candidate as one of the reasons for his defection.
