Ex-Minister Henry Ikoh Petitions Abia APC Appeal Committee, Rejects Primary Winner

Former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Chief Henry Ikoh, has petitioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee, rejecting the declaration of Chief Eric Opiah as the winner of the Abia State APC governorship primary.

In a protest letter submitted on Monday in Umuahia, Ikoh claimed he was duly adopted as the consensus candidate by 13 out of 18 members of the State Working Committee (SWC), in line with APC guidelines.

He said the consensus was reached after wide consultations with party stakeholders to ensure unity ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Ikoh expressed surprise at Opiah’s emergence despite the documented consensus and urged party members to remain calm, expressing confidence that the Appeal Committee would deliver justice.

“I remain a loyal and committed member of the APC,” he stated. The petition has heightened tensions within the Abia APC as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.

No immediate reaction has been received from the state APC or Chief Eric Opiah.
