Aisha Yesufu Loses NDC Senatorial Primary for FCT

Popular socio-political activist Aisha Yesufu has been defeated in the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial primary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

She lost the ticket to party chieftain Amanda Pam.

Yesufu, who transitioned from activism to politics, had expressed her ambition to represent the FCT in the Senate, citing the need to address pressing issues in Nigeria’s capital and amplify residents’ voices in national governance.

She is a prominent supporter of the NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The outcome has sparked significant reactions online, with some social media users mocking Yesufu’s loss and emphasizing that “politics is local.”

Critics highlighted the contrast between her strong social media presence and Pam’s grassroots structure.

One Facebook user, Comrade Idris Omuya, wrote: “Aisha Yesufu lost out in the NDC FCT senatorial ticket primary to this woman. Where are her Twitter and Facebook fans?”

Another, Evangelist Divine Vessel, added: “This is the old woman who defeated Aisha Yesufu... She has the structure and Aisha has the Twitter likes... elections are not won on social media.”

This development comes as parties gear up for the 2027 general elections. No official statement from Yesufu on the result has been widely reported yet.
