The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has transferred former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Kuje, Abuja, to commence his 75-year prison sentence.
This follows an order by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Tuesday after Mamman was presented in court by EFCC operatives.
Mamman was convicted on all counts and sentenced on May 13, 2026, to a cumulative 75 years imprisonment for diverting public funds amounting to about N33.8 billion, linked to major power projects including Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric initiatives.
He was sentenced in absentia after failing to appear for the conclusion of his trial.
The former minister was arrested by the EFCC in Kaduna last week after going into hiding.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, the EFCC also filed an application seeking the forfeiture of five additional properties allegedly linked to Mamman, including:
Walijam Apartments at Plot 435 Lobito Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja
Bloom Luxury Suites Nigeria Limited at No. 5 Amana Crescent, Unguwan Rimi, Kaduna State
Mansions at Nos. 11 and 13 Misratah Street, Wuse 2, Abuja
A.U.A. Plaza on Plot 734 Kade Street, Wuse 2, Abuja
Justice Omotosho ruled that the forfeiture matter be adjourned to June 8, 2026, to allow Mamman a fair hearing and opportunity to engage legal representation.
A relative of the convict, Shamsudeen Mohammed, testified that Mamman had travelled from Abuja to Kaduna in a taxi shortly after his conviction due to ill health.
The development is seen as a significant step in the EFCC’s ongoing efforts against high-profile corruption cases in the power sector. No immediate reaction from Mamman’s legal team has been reported.
