Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, describing the results as “concocted.”
In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, Amaechi said he would not accept results from a process that failed to meet the standards of fairness, transparency, and credibility the party had promised.
He alleged that about 80 percent of party members across the country were prevented from voting during the direct primary exercise held on Monday.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” Amaechi stated.
The former Rivers State governor accused the ADC of engaging in the same undemocratic practices it had previously condemned in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), such as voter disenfranchisement, vote buying, and manipulation of results.
Amaechi emphasised that the development was unacceptable and contrary to the ideals upon which the ADC was founded.
He had earlier warned that he would only accept the outcome if the process was free, fair, and transparent.
The rejection comes as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar reportedly leads in many states’ collated results, with other aspirants like Mohammed Hayatu-Deen also expressing dissatisfaction over the conduct of the primaries.
