Nigerian troops operating under Combat Sub-Sector (CSS) X have successfully rescued 148 kidnapped victims in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The victims, comprising two adult males and 146 women and children, were rescued around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2026, at Kotonkoro in Mariga LGA.
Security sources revealed that the hostages had been held in captivity for approximately three months by terrorists suspected to be operating from Kuyambana Forest in neighbouring Zamfara State.
They were abducted from villages in the Wamba District of Mariga LGA.Following the rescue operation, the victims were safely escorted to the Mariga Local Government Headquarters in Bangi and handed over to local authorities for proper documentation and eventual reunion with their families.
Security operations are continuing across parts of Niger State and neighbouring states as the military intensifies efforts to tackle kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities in the region.
