Former Ogun State Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has commended President Bola Tinubu for significantly increasing federal allocations to states.
Daniel attributed the massive boost in state revenues primarily to the removal of fuel subsidies and other economic policies of the Tinubu administration.
Speaking on the development, Daniel revealed that Ogun State now receives nearly four times the allocation it previously got from the Federation Account.
“We need to thank President Bola Tinubu for increasing the amount of federal allocation going to the states by four times,” Daniel said.
He noted that during his eight years as governor, Ogun State had access to about ₦330 billion, but the state now operates a budget of over ₦1.6 trillion due to the enhanced allocations.
The senator described the increase as a major financial boost for state governments, enabling them to undertake more developmental projects and improve governance at the sub-national level.
Daniel’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the impact of the fuel subsidy removal and other reforms, with some critics highlighting the associated hardships while supporters point to improved revenue flows to states.
