President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday met with Stanley Osifo, the young aspirant who challenged him for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
The meeting took place in Abuja shortly after Tinubu was formally declared the winner of the APC presidential primary and received his Certificate of Return as the party’s flag bearer.
According to sources at the event, President Tinubu commended Osifo for his boldness and courage in throwing his hat into the ring against an incumbent president.
He described the young contender’s decision to contest as a demonstration of political courage and a sign of deepening democratic participation within the party.
Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,504 votes in the nationwide direct primary against Tinubu’s 10.99 million votes, was the sole challenger in the contest.
His participation has been viewed as a bold move that added competitive flavour to what many expected would be a consensus arrangement.
President Tinubu is said to have used the occasion to encourage the younger politician, urging him to remain committed to the party and to channel his energy towards contributing to national development.
The President also extended appreciation to all party members who participated in the primary process.
The brief but cordial meeting underscores the APC’s post-primary efforts to promote unity and reconciliation within its ranks as the party gears up for the 2027 presidential election campaign.
