Dax George-Kelly has withdrawn from the Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary scheduled for today, Thursday, May 21, 2026.
His decision leaves Kingsley Chinda (popularly known as OK Chinda), an ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, as the likely consensus governorship candidate of the APC for the 2027 election in Rivers State.
The withdrawal comes shortly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara also pulled out of the race on Wednesday night.
With both Fubara and George-Kelly stepping aside, Chinda now stands as the strongest remaining contender for the APC ticket.
Party sources say the development is expected to lead to a smoother primary process as the APC seeks to present a united front ahead of the 2027 polls.
This latest twist further highlights the intense realignment and horse-trading within the Rivers APC following the protracted Fubara-Wike political crisis.
