Gunmen have abducted Grace Ogunleye, Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State.
Ogunleye was kidnapped on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road while returning from official duties.
Her vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside. Efforts to reach her on her mobile phone proved unsuccessful as the line was switched off at the time of reporting.
According to sources, the vice chairman had visited the Ilejemeje Local Government secretariat before proceeding to Ido Ekiti when the incident occurred.
Confirming the abduction, Falade Sunday, Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje Local Government, said security agencies have been notified and are working to rescue her.
The Ekiti State Police Command’s spokesman, Sunday Abutu, said he would provide further details later.
The abduction adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Ekiti State, coming shortly after the kidnapping of school pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
