Rivers 2027: APC Clears All House of Assembly Aspirants Loyal to Wike

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the outcome of its House of Assembly screening exercise, clearing only 33 aspirants while disqualifying 65 others ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the final report of the four-man screening committee, all 29 serving members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, scaled through the process. Prominent among those cleared are Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, House Leader Major Jack, and House Spokesman Enemi Alabo George.

In sharp contrast, the committee disqualified all 32 aspirants aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, including former factional Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo and two other pro-Fubara lawmakers.

A total of 98 aspirants were screened for the 32 State Assembly seats. The report was signed by Rt. Hon. Muraina Ajibola (Chairman) and other members.

The committee cited various reasons for the disqualifications, including:Nominations by persons who are not financially up-to-date members of the party, contrary to Article 9.3 of the Party Constitution.

Inducement and attempted bribery of committee members (one aspirant reportedly handed over an envelope containing money and was handed over to the police).

Submission of unsworn affidavits.

Failure to present voters’ cards or party membership slips/cards.

Conflicting dates of birth.

Irregular party membership numbers of nominators.

Inconsistencies in names on submitted documents.

Insufficient nominators (less than the required three per ward).

Invalid affidavits failing to disclose material particulars relating to NECO certificates.

The committee noted that the screening exercise was largely peaceful, though it recorded an incident involving Victor Oko-Jumbo, who attempted to enter the venue with a large security detail, leading to a brief disagreement with police officers.

This latest development further highlights the deep political divide in Rivers State between the Wike and Fubara camps within the APC structure as preparations intensify for the 2027 polls.

Aspirants have been advised to check the final list at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt.
