Julius Ihonvbere, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Owan Federal Constituency in Edo State.
The primary election was conducted on Saturday, with five aspirants contesting.
Announcing the results at the party’s Afuze office, the presiding officer, Kelvin Muhammed, declared Andrew Ijegbia, a former Edo State Commissioner for Mining, as the winner.
Results as announced:
Andrew Ijegbia — 3,695 votes
Abdul Oroh — 1,740 votes
Prof. Julius Ihonvbere — 1,005 votes
Honourable Folly — 505 votes
Barrister Scot — 642 votes
Total votes cast: 7,587Ijegbia’s victory means Ihonvbere will not be returning to the House for a third term.
The outcome reflects a significant upset for the current Majority Leader in his bid to retain the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
