The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted consignments of cocaine and opioids concealed in cartons of clothes and other items heading to the United Kingdom and Australia.
In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the seizures occurred on Friday during inspection of outbound shipments at a courier company in Lagos.
Details of the Lagos seizures:
170 grams of cocaine sealed in cellophane and hidden inside a carton of clothes destined for Australia.
A wide range of opioids heading to the United Kingdom, including 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol, and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection.
The agency also carried out multiple raids across the country, resulting in significant seizures and arrests:In Delta State, NDLEA destroyed 65,000 kilograms of skunk across two farms and arrested two suspects.
In Kaduna State, 361kg of skunk was recovered and one suspect arrested, while military-grade ammunition was intercepted on the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
In the FCT, a businessman was arrested for producing drug-laced cakes and cookies, with 800g of skunk and 2.7kg of infused cookies recovered.
Other arrests and seizures were made in Ogun, Taraba, Oyo, Edo, and Kano states.
The NDLEA said the operations, which included support from soldiers in some locations, demonstrate its ongoing commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks.
