Power Minister Tegbe Denies Promising to Fix National Grid in Three Months

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe has dismissed reports claiming he promised to resolve Nigeria’s national power grid challenges within three months.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Adeola Adelabu, Tegbe described the reports as inaccurate and misleading.

The minister clarified that no such three-month commitment was made during his Senate screening on May 6, 2026.

He explained that timelines for power sector reforms are still being developed and will depend on technical assessments and stakeholder consultations.

While initial stabilisation efforts will begin within his first 100 days in office, deeper structural reforms in areas such as gas supply, metering, and operational efficiency could take up to one year for meaningful progress.

Tegbe assured that Nigerians will see visible improvements in the power sector and pledged to stabilise the grid, modernise infrastructure, strengthen commercial frameworks, and enforce accountability across the value chain.
