Peter Obi Needed ADC; ADC Did Not Need Him – Kenneth Okonkwo

ADC Chieftain and former Labour Party figure, Kenneth Okonkwo, has sharply criticised Peter Obi, stating that the former Anambra governor was the one who needed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, and not vice versa.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Okonkwo questioned Obi’s readiness to lead Nigeria, arguing that his alleged tendency to avoid challenges makes him unsuitable for the presidency at a time when the country faces deep-seated crises.

“A man who says he is running away from challenges cannot be trusted with a country facing severe crises. His temperament is incompatible with the demands of Nigeria today,” Okonkwo declared.

Okonkwo further asserted that the ADC was already making progress before Obi’s involvement, describing it as a lifeline for Obi rather than the other way around.

The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and coalition talks in Nigeria’s opposition space as stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo’s comments highlight emerging fractures and differing assessments of Obi’s political strategy and leadership style.
