Activist and public commentator Aisha Yesufu has resigned from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, where she has declared her intention to run for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in 2027.
Yesufu announced the move on Tuesday, saying the switch aligns with her political vision and commitment to driving grassroots representation and accountability in the FCT.
She said her decision to leave the ADC was not taken lightly but was necessary to align with a platform she believes can better advance her goals for governance and civic engagement.
“Today, I formally resign from the ADC and join the NDC. I am also declaring my intention to contest for the FCT senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections,” she stated.
Yesufu, known for her advocacy on good governance and civic rights, said her campaign would focus on transparency, security, education, and women’s participation in politics.
The announcement comes amid a wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with several opposition figures moving between parties and coalition platforms.
There has been no official reaction yet from the ADC or NDC leadership on her defection.
