The Ogun State Government has announced that all victims hospitalized after the gas incident in Ijebu-Ode have fully recovered and been discharged.
Health Commissioner Dr. Tomi Coker gave the update on Saturday while addressing parents, guardians, and residents at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School.
She confirmed that all patients both adults and children treated at the State Hospital, Ijebu-Ode and other facilities are now “hale and hearty.”
The incident occurred on Friday when suspected methane gas leakage affected over 100 students and teachers in several schools including Our Lady’s Grammar School, Anglican Girls Grammar School, and Titilayo Agbaje Comprehensive High School.
Coker explained that while methane is non-toxic, it displaces oxygen and can cause dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and breathing difficulties. No severe cases were recorded.
The state government has deployed ambulances, rapid response teams, and environmental officers to the area. Gas analysers have been installed around the affected schools, and surveillance will continue. Parents were urged to remain calm as normalcy returns.
