Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has claimed that Peter Obi joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because he cannot thrive in a competitive political coalition that requires negotiation, compromise, and balancing different interests.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, Abdullahi said Obi’s exit from the ADC was premeditated.
He added that the former Anambra governor needed a party structure “that belongs to one man” which could easily guarantee him the presidential ticket without any rigorous internal bargaining.
“The kind of party Peter Obi needed was the party he is now. A party that belongs to one man, that can say I guarantee you the ticket before he comes in,” Abdullahi stated.
He noted that Obi not only wanted the presidential ticket but also desired to personally select his running mate.Abdullahi disclosed that Obi and former Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso formally joined the NDC on Sunday.
While expressing personal disappointment over their departure, Abdullahi said their exit has brought some relief to the ADC, allowing the party to focus on its objectives without undue pressure.
He however downplayed the impact, describing their exit as a setback but “not a fatal blow” to the ADC, and added that the party will not engage in any dogfight with them.
