Aspirants of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have gathered in Abuja for a crucial summit as the party intensifies preparations for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The aspirants’ summit, holding today Saturday, May 16, 2026, brings together prospective candidates for various positions, including presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly tickets.
The event is aimed at fostering unity, strategising, and aligning on the party’s direction.Party sources say the summit will feature discussions on key issues such as candidate selection, campaign strategies, and coalition possibilities with other opposition groups.
It is also expected to address the party’s recently released timetable for primaries, with the presidential primary scheduled for May 29 in Abuja.
The gathering comes shortly after the NDC opened the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms.
Presidential aspirants are required to pay ₦60 million, while fees for other positions range from ₦2.5 million for state assembly to ₦30 million for governorship.
