Kidnappers Hand Over Body of Former Jigawa Lawmaker After Ransom Payment

The lifeless body of Abba Anas Adamu, a former member of the House of Representatives from Jigawa State and a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been released to his family by his abductors following the payment of a ransom.

Adamu and fellow Jigawa politician Ali Tukur Gantsa were kidnapped last Wednesday while traveling from Kano to Abuja to attend an ADC congress.

The kidnappers initially demanded N200 million but eventually accepted N50 million.According to family sources, the abductors took the two men into a bush in the Jere area.

Adamu, who suffered from asthma and hypertension, went several days without his medication amid the stress of captivity. Despite efforts by Gantsa to reassure him, his health rapidly deteriorated, leading to his death in captivity.

The kidnappers reportedly withheld news of his death initially. After the ransom delivered by Adamu’s driver and son was paid, the abductors released Gantsa and allowed the family to recover Adamu’s body.

The incident has plunged the Jigawa ADC community and political circles into mourning. Adamu was widely described as a kind-hearted, people-oriented politician known for his integrity.

As of the latest reports, Adamu’s remains were being transported to Kano, with burial arrangements underway. No official statement has yet been issued by the Jigawa State chapter of the ADC.

This tragic event highlights the persistent security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, where high-profile kidnappings continue despite ongoing efforts by authorities.
