Atiku Abubakar, the newly emerged 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has made a passionate appeal to his main rivals, Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, to set aside their grievances and join him in the battle to rescue Nigeria’s democracy.
Atiku defeated Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen in the ADC presidential primary with a landslide 1,846,370 votes.
In his acceptance speech delivered in Abuja on Wednesday, the former Vice President urged all defeated aspirants across various positions to close ranks with the winners.
“There are no winners and no losers,” Atiku declared. “I, Atiku Abubakar, therefore, appeal to all those who feel aggrieved to return back to our party. I appeal to all those who contested for various positions in our primaries to close ranks with us. In particular, I invite Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to join me in this fight to save our democracy and our country.”
He added that Nigerians are looking up to the party for credible leadership and that he is ready to provide it.
The appeal comes amid reports that both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen have rejected the outcome of the primary, citing alleged irregularities.
Atiku’s message is seen as a strategic move to unify the party ahead of the 2027 general elections and build a strong coalition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
