‘I’ve Never Seen this Before’- Bode George Accuses Wike of Hijacking PDP, APC Tickets in Rivers

A prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Bode George, has strongly criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of interfering in the candidate selection processes of both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

George described the situation as unprecedented and deeply troubling, warning that it could destabilise the PDP and the broader political landscape if left unchecked.Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the PDP leader expressed frustration over the ongoing internal crisis within his party. He accused certain members, particularly those aligned with Wike, of disregarding party rules, procedures, and court rulings aimed at resolving disputes.

He referenced a Court of Appeal decision in Ibadan that directed aggrieved parties to meet and settle their differences, which he said was ignored. The matter escalated to the Supreme Court, which upheld the suspension of three members of the PDP’s National Working Committee. George questioned why those affected continued to defy the apex court’s ruling.“You can only force a horse to the brook, you cannot force that horse to drink,” George said. He described the defiant members as “agent provocateurs” who refuse to respect the party’s constitution and procedures.

The retired military officer and former PDP deputy national chairman invoked the Magna Carta to stress that no one is above the law, urging adherence to judicial decisions and party statutes.George’s strongest remarks targeted Wike’s alleged influence across party lines in Rivers State. “A man who says he’s a member of our party has appointed somebody, now nominated somebody to be the governorship candidate for APC in Rivers, and is also nominating somebody to be PDP governorship candidate,” he stated. “What kind of thing is this? I had never seen anything like this.”

He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and caution Wike, describing the minister’s actions as those of a “political undertaker.” George warned against repeating historical crises, referencing the 1962 Western Region turmoil, and cautioned that unchecked actions could destabilise the country. The comments come amid persistent PDP factional battles, particularly in Rivers State, where Wike has maintained significant influence despite his federal appointment. George’s outburst highlights deepening divisions within the opposition party as it prepares for future elections.
