Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has vowed to challenge what he described as injustice in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate selection process in Gombe State, declaring he is ready to “lose his life” in the fight for justice.
Pantami expressed strong confidence that he would emerge victorious if the party conducts a direct primary, insisting the current consensus arrangement does not reflect the will of party members.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, the former minister rejected the adoption of Jamilu Ishiyaku Gwamna as the APC consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
“I will challenge this injustice of Gombe APC governorship consensus even if I lose my life doing it. If it’s direct primary, everybody knows, we will win,” Pantami said.
He further warned: “If there’s no justice, I will fight it legally, a fight like never seen before in Nigeria.”The remarks come after APC stakeholders in Gombe State, led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, adopted Gwamna as the consensus candidate during a meeting on Sunday. Pantami, who was not present at the meeting, has described the process as lacking fairness and transparency.
Pantami’s strong stance highlights growing tensions within the APC in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with indications that other aspirants may also push for a more open selection process.
