The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited affected communities in Oyo State following the deadly terrorist attack and abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The IGP expressed deep concern over the incident and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of victims who lost their lives.
Accompanied by the Commissioners of Police from Kwara State and the Schools Protection Squad, Disu met with the Oyo State Police Command and other security stakeholders.
He received briefings on ongoing rescue efforts and security deployments in the area.
Disu assured residents, parents, and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, working with other security agencies, has stepped up coordinated search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and tactical deployments to secure the safe release of all abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
He strongly condemned the attack as cruel and unacceptable, vowing that no effort would be spared to restore normalcy.
The IGP also directed the immediate deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to strengthen operations in the affected communities and surrounding forests.
