Deyemi Okanlawon, the Nollywood actor, says he has no problem becoming a “house husband” if his wife ends up earning more than him.
In an interview on Tea With Tay podcast, the film star
explained that he would gladly step away from acting to focus on caring for his
family should his wife become the primary breadwinner.
He expressed comfort with such a relationship dynamic,
emphasising that his main priority is being “valuable” to his family,
regardless of traditional gender roles.
Okanlawon also addressed the discomfort some men feel when
women earn more, noting that it often leads to insecurity and oversensitivity.
“I pray to God. My wife hits a business that earns between
$1 million and $10 million per year. You won’t see me act again,” he said.
“I will become a house husband. I will take my children to
school and even cook, despite not knowing how to. If there is money, I don’t
mind being a house husband. If there is money? What are you doing again?
“I find that a lot of men are not comfortable with that
dynamic, so they become hypersensitive and complain over little things.
“My only prayer is that, as a human being, regardless of
gender, I should be valuable to my family.”
Okanlawon tied the knot with Damilola in January 2013.
Their first child, a boy named Demide, was born in July
2016. They announced the arrival of Adeife, their second son, in December 2017.
They welcomed their third child together in February 2024.
