Political analyst and Research Professor at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Prof. Femi Otubanjo, has said that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is largely responsible for the political challenges he is currently facing and may eventually defect to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Otubanjo made the remarks while commenting on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has seen intense tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, as well as shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The professor argued that Fubara’s decisions and political manoeuvres since assuming office have contributed significantly to his current predicament.
He suggested that the governor’s troubles stem from his own choices rather than external forces alone.
Speaking on the possibility of Fubara leaving his current political platform, Otubanjo stated that the governor may be eyeing a move to the NDC, describing it as a potential destination for politicians seeking new alignments in the evolving political landscape.
This comment comes amid persistent rumours and speculations about Governor Fubara’s political future.
The governor has previously denied rumours of defecting to the NDC, insisting he remains committed to his current party and its overall interest.
