Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Isah Ashiru Kudan, has won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship ticket for the 2027 election in Kaduna State.
Ashiru, who previously represented the Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, secured a landslide victory with 86,113 votes during the party’s primary held on May 25, 2026.
A former Commissioner of Education, Jafaru Sani, came a distant second with 29,580 votes. Other contenders included Professor Muhammad San-Bello (13,559 votes), Ahmed Tijjani (13,550 votes), and Shuaibu Mikati (10,819 votes).
Ashiru was the PDP’s governorship candidate in both the 2019 and 2023 elections. He lost to Nasir El-Rufai in 2019 and finished second to the current Governor, Uba Sani, in 2023 after polling 719,000 votes.
Reacting to his emergence as the ADC flag bearer, Ashiru described the outcome as the beginning of “a new chapter for Kaduna” and pledged to provide purposeful leadership if elected in 2027.
Meanwhile, some House of Representatives aspirants on the ADC platform have rejected the outcome of the party’s primaries, alleging irregularities. Led by Samaila Makarfi, the aggrieved aspirants described the process as a “sham” and demanded a review.
