Former Chief of Air Staff and 2023 APC governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar (Rtd), has announced his withdrawal from active partisan politics.
In a widely circulated video message on social media, the retired senior officer cited recent developments and internal crises within political parties as key factors influencing his decision.
He described the move as “painful but necessary,” delivered emotionally in Hausa while addressing his supporters.
“With a heavy heart, I have decided to step away from politics for personal reasons,” Abubakar stated.
He expressed deep gratitude to the people of Bauchi State and Nigerians at large for their support since he entered politics after retiring from the Nigerian Air Force in 2021.
He also tendered an apology to his loyal supporters over the sudden exit and offered prayers for God’s blessings upon them.
Despite leaving politics, Abubakar affirmed his commitment to public service through his Marshal Care Foundation, with a continued focus on healthcare and education initiatives.
“I will continue rendering humanitarian services… Leaving politics does not mean I will stop serving humanity,” he said.
Abubakar contested the 2023 Bauchi governorship election on the APC platform but lost to the incumbent, Senator Bala Mohammed of the PDP.
Prior to his announcement, there had been speculation that he might vie for the governorship again in 2027, especially following his reported links to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition in the state.
The announcement has sparked reactions among his political associates and supporters across Bauchi State. Abubakar concluded his message with prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Bauchi and Nigeria as a whole.
