Adamu Abubakar, son of former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the House of Representatives seat in Chanchaga Federal Constituency, Niger State.
The primary was conducted on Saturday across the 11 wards of the constituency. Returning Officer Dan Islam declared Abubakar the winner after he polled a dominant 30,650 votes, far ahead of his closest challenger, Nmaa Ahmed, who received 1,271 votes.
Another aspirant, Shuaibu Mairago, scored 311 votes.
Islam formally returned Abubakar as the APC candidate for the constituency ahead of the general elections.
In related results from Niger State, Abdullahi Mahmud emerged victorious in the Lapai Federal Constituency primary with 8,559 votes, while Prof. Yakubu Auna won the Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency ticket.
The emergence of Adamu Abubakar adds to the list of notable figures entering the political arena as parties gear up for the 2027 elections.
