Eight Aspirants Indicate Interest in Rivers Governorship Race Under ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has announced that no fewer than eight prominent individuals have formally indicated interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election on the party’s platform.

The party described the development as a strong sign of growing political momentum and increasing public confidence in the ADC as a viable alternative for credible leadership and people-oriented governance in the state.

In a statement signed by the Rivers State Chairman-Elect of the party, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, the ADC noted that the level of interest generated within the party has been unprecedented.

Those who have shown interest include: a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government; a former member of the House of Representatives and ex-Executive Director (Marine and Operations) of the Nigerian Ports Authority; another former House of Representatives member and ex-Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); a former Commissioner for Employment Generation; a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH); a renowned architect; and several private sector leaders and entrepreneurs.

The party also revealed that several other qualified individuals have expressed interest in contesting for Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats across Rivers State under the ADC banner.

The ADC linked the surge in interest to the recent declaration by former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to contest for the presidency on the party’s platform in 2027.

“This development sends a very clear message: ADC is no longer viewed as an alternative party. ADC is now increasingly being seen as the vehicle for the future,” the statement said.

The party added that the influx of experienced politicians, professionals, and technocrats reflects a growing belief that Nigeria needs a fresh political direction anchored on competence, accountability, and inclusive governance.

The ADC pledged commitment to internal democracy, transparent processes, peaceful engagement, and issue-based campaigns as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
